Hysteroscopy

A thin scope is passed through the cervix into the uterus.

Hysteroscopy will be performed along with endometrial ablation to view the inside of the uterine cavity. Hysteroscopy is also used by itself as a diagnostic procedure for irregular, heavy or postmenopausal bleeding. A thin scope is passed through the cervix into the uterus. Sterile fluid (saline) is pumped through the scope to expand the cavity and a camera attached to the scope will show the image on a video monitor that both the physician and patient can see. In this way, fibroids, polyps, scar tissue and irregularities inside the cavity can be diagnosed.
