A letter from Dr. Kohls

It is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement from medicine at the end of this year. After 31 years in OBGYN practice, 28 of which have been at Partners since its inception in 1991, I am ready to move on to the next phase of my life. I am grateful to have been involved in the care of so many wonderful women and am honored to have known your stories and your families along the way. It is a distinct privilege of obstetrics to be witness to the birth of the children who create these families by their presence. OBGYN practice has changed immensely during my years of work, but the basics stay the same: the shared joys, sorrows, surprises and memories that make it remarkable. Thank you so much for sharing with me.

It is a fact that your patient population ages with you and I will also miss my “more mature” patients. So many have told me about the pleasures of being a grandparent and now I can appreciate that firsthand as I have become one. That is a big reason for wanting to have more free time, to be with my first grandchild. I also have seen many fine examples of graceful aging that I will try to emulate. I hope that you will continue to put your trust in Partners OBGYN. I have every confidence in my partners and staff to provide excellent care for you in your next phase of life.

With gratitude, a bit of sadness, and hope for the future, I will retire after 12/31/19 .
